Choosing Curriculum for Your Child
Good, Better, Best and Worst Practices

(A) A list of good ways to choose curriculum for your child:

     1) Have your child tested so you know at what level they are learning.
FCA offers the KTEA test for this purpose. You can sign up for it by going to our secure site at http://familychristianacademy.com/secure/service.cfm and clicking the link that says, "Current Achievement Test Information (Click here to enroll in testing)"

     2) Visit bookstores that offer curriculum and look at the actual books for yourself.
FCA bookstores have a wide selection to choose from. Our experience has shown us that the books we carry are good choices for most parents. You may find the locations of our bookstores at http://www.familychristianacademy.com/contact.html

     3) Research curriculum on the world wide web.
FCA has an on-line book store where you can read about the books & publishers and order books. See http://www.familychristianacademy.com/317.shtml

     4) Ask experienced home schooling parents to give you their opinions.
FCA has several support groups that you can join. As a member you will have access to experienced home schooling parents. Go to our activity center at http://familychristianacademy.com/secure/activity.cfm and click on "Home School Support Groups in Tennessee" to find a support group near you.

     5) Seek the advice of a professional.
FCA offers an economical Curriculum Consulting service. Contact our Guidance Counselor at Advisor@familychristianacademy.com or your nearest book store or you can sign up for it on-line by going to our secure site at http://familychristianacademy.com/secure/service.cfm, clicking the link that says, "Current Achievement Test Information (Click here to enroll in testing)" and then selecting Curriculum Consulting.

     6) Attend home schooling seminars.
FCA offers a free "Introduction to Home Schooling" seminar once a month. Visit our web calendar at http://www.familychristianacademy.com/calendar/ and look for the abbreviation "Intro to HS" to find the next one near you. Also our support groups also frequently have speakers on related topics.
