Famous men of Greece Guide
by Poland & Haaren, edited and updated by Rob and
Cyndy Shearer
The history of Greece is taught chronologically as students read short
biographical sketches outlining the lives of important figures. Your fourth
or fifth graders should be able to enjoy it independently, older students
can read it as well and not feel like they have been given something that
is “babyish.” Our kindergartner loved listening to us read it to her older
brother..
Famous men of Greece
By Cyndy Shearer
Paperback
Provides reading assignments, vocabulary lists, discussion questions,
practical "hands-on" activities, and suggested books for further reading
on Greece. The discussion questions are carefully crafted to focus on important
issues and encourage your children to evaluate the lives of famous men
against biblical standards.

Greenleaf Guide to Ancient Egypt
by Cyndy Shearer
Ever wonder how Biblical history and Ancient Egypt fit together? Why
was God so angry with Pharaoh, anyway? These were questions we asked when
we began our study of Ancient Egypt. We wanted to start our study of western
history by beginning at the beginning. After reading through the Old Testament
(which is history, after all) we study ancient Egypt. This study guide
presents ten lesson plans using the six books listed below. Included are
possible vocabulary lists and discussion questions that can be drawn from
the reading. Also includes directions for playing a checkers like game
found in Tut’s tomb, directions for building a model shaduf (irrigate like
the Egyptians!), as well as suggestions for how to adapt your study to
fit grades 2-7. Home school tested. Excellent for Konos or Unit studies.
Average duration is about 15 weeks.

Famous men of Middle Ages Guide
by Rob and Cyndy Shearer
Like the other Greenleaf Guides, the Guide to the Middle Ages sets
the study of each of the key figures in a Biblical context. Discussion
questions prompt the students to reflect on how the various figures match
up to God’s standards of justice or righteousness. Suggested supplementary
readings are found in The Cultural Atlas of the Middle Ages (especially
good for its maps), and David Macaulay’s two Caldecott winners, Cathedral
and Castle.
Famous men of Middle Ages
by Poland and Haaren, edited and updated by Rob and Cyndy
Shearer
This is the third book in the Famous Men series. The stories begin
with the tales of the Germanic chiefs who defeated the Romans, Alaric,
Genseric, and Theodoric. Then there are the stories of the famous kings
of the Franks, Clovis, Charles Martel, and Charlemagne. Attention is also
paid to non-European leaders like Justinian, Mohammed, Harun-Al-Rashid,
and El Cid. The second half of the book includes chapters on William the
Conqueror, Frederick Barbarossa, Tamerlane, Marco Polo, and Joan of Arc
(an honorary Famous Man). The stories of many of these figures can not
be found for children anywhere else. Do not just show them pictures of
castles, let them read the stories of those who built them and lived in
them.

thirty chapters, with each chapter being a short biography (in chronological
